The Drum has been an essential tool for healing, journeying, ceremony, prayer, and love for centuries. In this workshop you will learn the sacred art of creating and birthing your own drum with love, respect, and honor.
We will hold sacred space the entire duration of this creation process beginning with Calling in the Directions. You will be taught how to hold your intentions with the drums in prayer while you connect with this precious gift from Mother Earth. There will be beautiful music, songs to sing, and 2 Journeys.
The cost of the workshop is $75.00 per person
You will need to purchase your ticket in advance to reserve your space as soon as possible as space is limited to 20 people. There will be no "holding space", although we will be having a Stand By Waiting List just in case anyone cancels.
To purchase your ticket, click on the link below where you will be taken to the Event Brite website.
You will also need to purchase your drum making kit ahead of time so that it will arrive in plenty of time for the workshop. They usually take about a week for delivery so be sure to order before June 20th. Drum kits can range from about $80 and up depending on the type and size of the hide and the type and size of the wood hoop.
**Please Pay Special Attention as I will be posting useful information about the meanings of the animal hides and woods to help you select the right drum kit for you.
Don't forget to order the beater or mallet as well! We will be making those on the day of the workshop as well!
Here are two websites that truly honor the hides and woods:
https://www.cedarmountaindrums.com/product/hoop-drum-kits/
https://www.crazycrow.com/native-american-drum-kits-and-supply
You will need to soak the hide and lacing a minimum of 4 hours but no more than 12 hours prior to coming to class. The length of soaking time is dependent on the type of hide you purchase. We will be posting information and reminders about soaking and spending time with your hide and wood.
What to Bring to the Workshop:
- If you order a pre-hole punched hide, there is no need to bring tools.
- If you order a hide that is not pre-punched, you will need to bring the following tools:
* needle nose pliers
* hole punching tools
* a knife and/or scissors
* a sharpie marker
Everybody Needs to Bring:
- Your drum kit which includes the hide, lacing, and wood hoop
- Bring the hide wrapped in a damp towel (you might want to put the damp towel in a bucket for traveling in your vehicle)
- A few dry towels to lay on the floor and work on
- Altar items for your own space (crystals, feathers, ancestral pictures, etc.)
- Water or your favorite beverage
- Snacks to share (fruit, nuts, muffins, granola, etc.)
Much more information will be posted in the following weeks. Please keep an eye out for updates! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me either by Messenger or on my cell phone - 210-363-7471
